APC Disowns Suspended Abayomi Hunye, Affirms Senator Yayi as Ogun Governorship Candidate

All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Mr. Abayomi Hunye over his recent self-declaration as the party’s governorship candidate for the coming Ogun State governorship election, labelling him an impostor, who lacks any legal or moral standing to represent the party.

In a statement by the National Secretary of APC, Senator Surajudeen Basiru, the party clarified that Hunye is serving suspension and warned the public, media outlets and political stakeholders against conducting any business with him under the guise of APC.

According to the party leadership, Hunye’s claims of holding the governorship ticket are unauthorised and false.

APC said Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, following disciplinary steps initiated at the grassroots level.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Hunye is not a member of the APC in good standing,” Sen. Basiru said.

He was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.”

APC said the disciplinary measure followed due process, moving from the ward executive level to ratification by the Ipokia Local Government leadership, before receiving final approval from the Ogun State Working Committee and official transmission to the National Headquarters in Abuja.

The party cited several infractions as grounds for the disciplinary action against Hunye.
‘’They include nefarious dealings of engaging in conduct deemed injurious to the image and integrity of the party and executing deliberate actions intended to cause division and disaffection among loyal party members.

Setting the record straight regarding its official ticket for the Ogun State governorship race, the APC confirmed that Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan (popularly known as Senator Yayi) is the duly elected candidate of the party following a validly-conducted primary election, running alongside Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.

The party disclosed that the submission of their credentials on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal was completed on August 7, at 6pm, in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 and standard electoral guidelines. INEC has since issued official acknowledgement slips validating their candidates’ profiles.
“Any person, group, or organisation that associates, collaborates, or transacts any political business with Mr. Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at its own risk,” the statement warned.

The party will not be held liable for any financial loss, legal disputes, or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings.”
To address the situation, the APC National Secretariat has directed its legal team to begin contempt proceedings and lodge a formal complaint with security agencies regarding the alleged impersonation and misrepresentation.

The party cautioned media platforms against granting Hunye exposure to propagate his claims, warning that providing a platform for such representations could be interpreted as complicity in a fraudulent act.

Members and supporters across Ogun State were advised to remain calm and seek official updates directly through the Office of the National Secretary at the party’s Abuja headquarters.
