Basiru Charts a New Course for Osun As APC Osogbo Local Government Hosts High-Level Meeting
...as PDP Defectors Join the party
In what many have described as a turning point for Osun State politics, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osogbo Local Government held a landmark stakeholders’ meeting today at Alekuwodo, drawing party faithful, grassroots mobilizers, and political heavyweights from across the Local government area.
The event was highlighted by the official defection of Hon. Adogan and his loyalists from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC — a strategic boost to the party’s momentum ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial elections.
At the center of it all was Senator Ajibola Basiru (SRJ), National Secretary of the APC, Osogbo-born, and a leading gubernatorial aspirant. SRJ, who personally welcomed the new members into the APC fold, declared the moment a “renewal of purpose” for the party and for Osun State.
In his address, Senator Basiru reaffirmed his readiness to lead Osun into a new era of sustainable development, economic empowerment, and strategic partnership with the Federal Government. “I am not just running to occupy the Government House,” he said, “I am running to build a better Osun—an Osun that works for everyone. An Osun where opportunities are not a privilege, but a right.”
He outlined his vision for a forward-thinking administration focused on job creation, youth engagement, digital transformation, infrastructural development, and inclusive governance. “Our young people will no longer be sidelined,” Basiru stated. “They will be the heartbeat of our government, the drivers of innovation, and key partners in the new Osun we are building.”
While expressing dissatisfaction with the current state leadership, Basiru called out what he termed the “directionless governance” of the current PDP-led administration, describing it as a government “ruled by remote control, and managed more by emotion than by economic and political sense.” In his words, “Osun deserves more than a dancing masquerade in the Government House. We need strategic leadership, not showmanship.”
The National Secretary also issued a unifying call to all APC members: “Let us come together, set aside personal ambitions, and focus on a singular goal—reclaiming Osun and restoring her glory in 2026.”

Adding weight to the event was the presence of Hon. Adeboye Adelakun, the respected APC leader for Osun Central Senatorial District, who lent his voice in support of party unity, grassroots reawakening, and full support for the party forward-focused vision.

The meeting concluded with renewed energy, political clarity, and a shared belief that with SRJ at the helm, Osun is poised to reclaim its place as a beacon of development and excellence in Nigeria.
