Osun APC to New CP Zungura: We’ll Cooperate Fully, But Demand Justice for Victims of Election Violence

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has pledged a full co-operation with the new state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim D. Zungura, advising him to be dispassionate in carrying out his statutory policing duties in the state in the overall interest of restoration of peaceful coexistence among all the people in the state.

We are always available as a party to partner with you in your arduous task of ridding the state of criminals who have been brazenly perpetrating atrocities on the innocent inhabitants of the state especially the members and supporters of our party in the name of politics.

All we need from you as the state commissioner of police is for you to carry out your constitutional duties with the fear of Allah and in consonance with the dictates of the rules of law, fairness, honesty and integrity.

We are demanding the proper investigation and prosecution of all the hoodlums who are in various custodies in the state over the killings and maiming of our members and supporters and the wilful destruction of their property before, during and after the governorship election.

We strongly oppose the diatribe of Governor Ademola Adeleke against our party where he mischievously stated in his welcome address to you yesterday thus: “I know you will be worried that Osun people see certain police units as the home base of APC thugs”.

It was quite unfortunate that the state governor could go to the extent of collectively heaping a needless insult on our party and the police which portrays him as the state Chief Security Officer whose call for peace in the state is merely cosmetic.

We want to further enjoin you to inject sanity into the security firmament in Osun State by continuing the arrest and prosecution of whoever is fugitive to justice irrespective of his social standing or political leaning in the state without fear or favour.

May Allah assist you to function optimally in your new office to the benefit of the inhabitants of the state.
