The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the occasion of the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary, describing the milestone as a moment for sober reflection, renewed patriotism and collective commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous and united Nigeria.

In a congratulatory message issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, today, the Osun APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, paid a glowing tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers and other national heroes whose courage, sacrifices and unwavering belief in the Nigerian dream laid the foundation for the country’s independence on October 1, 1960.

Lawal noted that Nigeria’s 66-year journey has been marked by remarkable achievements, difficult challenges and valuable lessons, stressing that the resilience, creativity and determination of Nigerians remain among the country’s greatest strengths.

According to him, the Independence anniversary should not merely be a day of celebration but also an opportunity for Nigerians to remember the sacrifices of those who fought for the country’s freedom and to renew their commitment to the ideals of unity, peace, justice and national development.

The Osun APC chairman acknowledged the contributions of successive administrations and patriotic Nigerians whose efforts have continued to move the country forward.

He particularly urged the citizens to remain hopeful and committed to the collective task of nation-building, irrespective of political, ethnic, religious or regional differences.

Speaking on the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lawal expressed confidence in the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the administration’s reform programmes are aimed at repositioning the economy, strengthening institutions, creating opportunities and laying the foundation for sustainable national development.

Lawal urged Nigerians to support the country’s democratic institutions and remain patient and constructive as ongoing reforms continue to unfold, stressing that meaningful national transformation requires sacrifice, perseverance and collective responsibility.

He also emphasised that the true meaning of independence must be reflected in improved living standards, quality education and healthcare, employment opportunities, security and an economic environment where every Nigerian can pursue his or her dreams with dignity.

The state party chairman called on leaders at all levels to remain responsive to the needs of the people, while urging the citizens to complement government efforts through hard work, integrity, entrepreneurship, innovation and responsible citizenship.

Lawal further appealed to Nigerians to protect the unity of the country, stressing that Nigeria’s diversity should be viewed as a strength rather than a source of division.

He urged the citizens to promote tolerance, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and dialogue in the interest of present and future generations.

Lawal particularly charged Nigerian youths to take ownership of the country’s future, noting that the Nigeria of tomorrow will be shaped by the choices, sacrifices and contributions of the younger generation today.

He said the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers should inspire every citizen to believe in the possibility of a greater nation, adding that the challenges confronting the country today should not diminish the collective hope for a more prosperous and united Nigeria.

The Osun APC chairman therefore called on Nigerians to celebrate the 66th Independence Anniversary with renewed patriotism and optimism, reaffirming his belief that Nigeria possesses the human and natural resources required to attain its full potential.

In Lawal’s words: “After 66 years of independence, Nigeria remains a nation of immense possibilities. We must honour the sacrifices of our heroes by refusing to give up on our country.

“The journey may not always be easy, but with unity, responsible leadership, hard work and faith in Nigeria, we can build the nation of our dreams,” the state party chairman said.

Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria! May our unity grow stronger, our hopes rise higher, and our beloved nation continue to advance towards peace, prosperity and greatness.
