The Osun West Crusaders, a coalition of progressives, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District. This appeal is rooted in a desire for equity and balanced representation within the state.
According to AbdulGafar Blessing, coordinator of the Osun West Crusaders, Osun West has been a cornerstone of support for the APC, consistently championing the progressive cause since the era of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). Despite this loyalty, the district has been underrepresented in gubernatorial leadership for 26 years.
The group argues that zoning the ticket to Osun West would not only be a commitment to fairness and inclusivity but also democratize political power, fostering a sense of belonging among the diverse districts of Osun. This move would align with the APC’s values of unity, justice, and regional integration.
The Osun West Crusaders expressed confidence that the APC would win Osun State back if the ticket is zoned to Osun West. They appealed to key party leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, to consider their demand.
The group criticized the current administration under Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing it as lacking vision and marked by erratic governance. They pledged to mobilize support for the APC’s victory if their demand is met.
As the APC prepares for the 2026 gubernatorial election, the Osun West Crusaders’ call for zoning the ticket to Osun West is seen as a strategic move to enhance the party’s electoral success and demonstrate its commitment to just political processes.
