The Osun State Government has announced that members of the National Youth Service Corps will no longer be assigned to its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The decision was conveyed in a circular signed on behalf of the government by S.A Aina, which stated that MDAs have been enlisting corps members without providing them with meaningful assignments.
The circular went on to say that unnecessarily engaging corps members had resulted in an increase in monthly corps member numbers as well as an increase in the monthly wage expense.

Worse yet, the majority of these corp disciplined members are irrelevant to such MDAs, rendering them redundant for most of their service year.

As a result of the foregoing, and in accordance with Ministry of Finance Circular No. 143/1 of 31st January 2022, it is now necessary to indicate that regulatory measures on engagement and deployment of corps members remain in effect.”
“It is also obligatory for all MDAS in desperate need of corps members to supplement their staff in crucial areas to route such requests through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, justifying and stating areas of specialization and the quantity required, prior to their mobilization at NYSC Camp.” Any MDA that fails to follow this directive will not be able to pay its corps members.
It should also be highlighted that corps members will no longer be assigned to government MDAs, but rather to schools, in order to completely engage them and eliminate the risk of redundancy and truancy among them,” the circular said in part.
