Adeleke’s Volte-face On Asset/Vehicle Recovery Order, Sign Of Policy Somersault – Osun APC

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of approbating and reprobating, saying it is the hallmark of the policies of his infamous government.

According to the Osun State chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, today, it is laughable that Governor Adeleke out of victimization and vindictiveness could engage in the flagrant misuse of Executive Order to direct the seizure of vehicles legally released to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s political functionaries without studying the inherited book on governance.

The yesterday volte-face of Governor Adeleke that the ‘approval granted by the immediate past Executive Governor for the release and eventual ownership of the official vehicles (kia cars) allocated to members of the immediate past Osun State Executive Council followed due process’ is an indication of a gross dereliction and incompetence of the incumbent state executive.

Lawal pointed out that part of the findings of the Adeleke Task Force on Recovery of Assets/Government Project Vehicles that stated that ‘the letter of permission written by the immediate past Head of Service, directing political appointees of the immediate past administration to go home with the official vehicles allocated to them’ was, however, illegal, is still tantamount to challenging of the constitutional authority of Oyetola as a governor of the state because it wasn’t possible for the ex-State Head of Service to give such a directive unilaterally without the consent of the governor.

The state APC chairman explained that he was pretty sure that the Adeleke asset recovery committee would meet a brick wall in the course of carrying out their vindictive activities against the opposition.

He wondered why the recovery of some imaginary vehicles that might have outlived their usefulness should be the priority of any serious-minded, purposeful and focused government when hunger is walking unhindered across the nooks and crannies of the state due to the wicked warehousing of the Federal Government’s palliatives in cash and food items in billions of naira meant for the less privileged people of the state?

Lawal pointed out that he could not spot any difference between the Governor Adeleke obnoxious Executive Order Five which ‘removed’ the three eminent monarchs in the state who were duly selected, appointed and given the staff of office by ex-Governor Oyetola within his constitutional tenure of four years.

In the state APC chairman’s words: “As much as our party won’t support the carting away of the government vehicles by any unauthorized former political functionaries, such recovery, if any, should follow due process where the rule of law should be followed to the letter.

“We shall frown and resist by all legal means any action exhibited by Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers to use his suspicious asset recovery agenda to intimidate, harass, hunt and attack any of the members of our party.

“One would have thought that Governor Adeleke would be a fierce apostle in having an absolute respect for the rule of law as himself was a beneficiary of the judiciary at the apex Court of the land which pronounced him the state governor. But alas, the reverse has been the case!”.
