A traditional ruler in Osun state, Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Adenekan, has been implicated in inciting electoral violence after a video surfaced of him urging members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to harm supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 elections. This disturbing development comes on the heels of the 2023 presidential and national assembly elections, which were marred by violence in the state .

The monarch, who spoke in Yoruba, made a veiled reference to the 2023 election and how he encouraged the PDP Candidate in the election, Oladebo Lanre Omoleye, to resort to violence so as to edge out his rival from the APC.

Located within Osun West senatorial district, Apomu and Ikire were at the epicenter of the turmoil that pervaded the last poll. The area witnessed the brazen killing of citizens, including kidnapping of APC Ward executive, Saheed Oyegunju, who was abducted in broad daylight in Ikire, Irewole Local Government, by political thugs allegedly led by Sodiq Ayewo and Kokumo. Tragically, Oyegunju’s body was later discovered at Oosa Village via Ikire.
