A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, has expressed deep concern over the worsening state of unemployment in Nigeria, revealing that even his own children have been victims of the system.

Speaking during a live interview on Nigeria Info FM 99.3, Lagos, the elder statesman lamented that his children have struggled to secure employment in the country simply because they bear his name.

Chief George, a retired naval officer and one-time Military Administrator of Ondo State, said the prevailing hunger and anger across the nation have reached an alarming level, warning that the situation calls for urgent intervention by the government.

“Today in Nigeria, everywhere you turn there is hunger and anger,” he said. “Forget about me being in the PDP; the reality is that the base of the pyramid — the ordinary people — are suffering. What have we done as a nation to positively impact the generality of Nigerians?”

He noted that both graduates and non-graduates are frustrated and idle, describing the youth unemployment crisis as a ticking time bomb.

“Graduates are floating, with no future and no hope; non-graduates are doing nothing,” he stated. “I once suggested that Mr President should establish a special fund to empower those without vocational training, and create micro-credit opportunities for young graduates who want to start small businesses.”

Chief George also faulted recent government priorities, particularly the First Lady’s plan to raise funds for a national library project. According to him, such funds should instead be channelled towards initiatives that directly empower citizens and stimulate economic growth.

“The First Lady said she wanted to build a national library and called for donations. That money could have come from those who donated billions within days to banks and other causes. The President should direct that such contributions be processed transparently for public benefit,” he said.

In a poignant revelation, the PDP stalwart added, “The younger generation in this country, including my own children who graduated a long time ago, have returned and tried to get jobs, but they can’t because their name is Bode George.”
