Breaking: 84 days after, health workers suspend nationwide strike
The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has suspended its nationwide strike after 84 days to allow the Federal Government begin full implementation of the agreed terms of settlement reached with the union.
The decision was taken during an expanded emergency hybrid meeting of JOHESU’s National Executive Council (NEC), held on Friday in Abuja.
JOHESU had commenced an indefinite strike on November 14, 2025, citing the Federal Government’s failure to implement the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).
In a communiqué signed by its National Chairman, Kabiru Ado Minjibir, and National Secretary, Comrade Martin Adekunle Egbanubi, the union said the NEC unanimously agreed to suspend the industrial action following exhaustive deliberations and a review of resolutions reached at a conciliation meeting with government representatives.
According to the communiqué, both parties also agreed that the ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) process would be used to address outstanding defects, gaps and implementation failures dating back to 2009.
