The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has delivered 24 newly completed housing units to the University of Ilesa, in a move seen as a practical step towards improving staff welfare and supporting institutional growth.

The handover ceremony, held on the university campus, drew senior officials from the ministry, members of the university management, and other stakeholders, all of whom described the intervention as timely and impactful.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, said the project underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to expand access to decent and affordable housing nationwide. Represented by the ministry’s Director of Public Buildings, Pemi Temitope, the minister noted that the initiative fits squarely within the government’s broader housing agenda.

He maintained that housing remains central to national development, arguing that meaningful progress cannot be achieved without ensuring citizens have access to safe and functional shelter. According to him, the ministry has continued to roll out targeted initiatives aimed at meeting the accommodation needs of Nigerians, particularly public servants and workers in critical sectors.

Dangiwa further stressed that universities occupy a strategic position as hubs of knowledge and innovation, adding that staff welfare must be prioritised if such institutions are to deliver effectively on their mandate.

In his response, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, described the development as historic and long overdue. He commended the ministry for what he called a well-timed intervention that would directly improve the living conditions of staff.

Asaolu assured that the housing units, sited within the university परिसर, would be properly maintained and utilised for their intended purpose. He added that beyond improving welfare, the development is expected to boost the institution’s appeal to top academic and professional talent.
