Osun APC Needs Healing After Divisive Primary, Says Rotimi Makinde
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Rotimi Makinde, has expressed concern over the conduct of the party’s recent primary process, warning that it created avoidable divisions within the party.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Wednesday, Makinde said the primary election could have been handled in a manner that would strengthen the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election rather than deepen internal cracks.
According to him, many aspirants entered the race with the understanding that party unity should remain paramount, noting that a fair and transparent process would have encouraged several contestants to step down early in the interest of consensus and collective progress.
Makinde lamented that the absence of firmness in the handling of the exercise, alongside the actions of some individuals he accused of treating the process as a “business venture,” contributed to growing discontent within the party.
The former lawmaker stated that many party members would have respected the guidance of APC elders if the process had been managed with sincerity and openness.
Despite the grievances trailing the primary, Makinde urged members of the party to embrace reconciliation and work together ahead of future political contests in the state.
“We are one APC family. It is not too late to heal, to reconcile, and to rebuild together for Osun,” he said.
His remarks come amid ongoing reactions from stakeholders following the Osun APC primary election and renewed calls for unity within the party ahead of the governorship poll.
