The Inglorious Plots of Empty Celebrations: A Timely Warning to Mr. Governor Over the University of Ilesa Projects

0 510

The APC Restoration Forum has watched with keen amusement and growing concern the desperate attempts by the current administration to claim glory where it sowed no seed. Information reaching us from Osogbo confirms that Mr. Governor is preparing to lead a high-powered delegation to the University of Ilesa for the commissioning of several newly renovated and completed buildings, including substandard roads.

While we welcome any development that elevates the educational standards of Ijesaland and Osun State at large, we owe it a duty to the public, the taxpayers, and posterity to expose the grand deception underlying this upcoming ceremony.

To set the Records Straight, the true origin of the Projects
should be known to the entire world that the structures Mr. Governor is rushing to “commission” are not the products of this administration’s budgetary allocations or executive vision. Built by the Former College of Education, The structural foundations and primary blocks of these buildings were fully conceptualized, financed, and erected during the era of the defunct Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, under previous progressive administrations.

Funded by Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), The recent face-lift, completion, and internal styling of these facilities were entirely funded through the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the institution itself—money pooled from the hard-earned resources of struggling students, parents, and diligent administrative management. Meanwhile, part of the IGR money was also used to employ over 180 staffs in which almost 120 of them are indigenes of Ede with less qualifying certificates.

Our Position is that It is an executive overreach and a moral bankruptcy for a state government to starve an institution of critical funding, only to swoop in like a vulture to take credit for projects financed by the school’s internal survival funds.

Our Demands and Warnings to Mr. Governor is not Usurp the Labour of Others: We strongly advise Mr. Governor to resist the temptation of cut-and-paste governance. Do not embarrass the office of the executive by cutting ribbons on projects you did not fund.

Show Us Your Own Blueprint if you (Mr. Governor) wants to commission projects at the University of Ilesa. He should award new contracts, inject state funds, build fresh faculties from scratch, and invite the world to celebrate those.

The University of Ilesa is a citadel of learning, not a scenic backdrop for political propaganda and empty photo-ops. The academic community and the sophisticated people of Ijesaland can see through this facade.

Governance is an exercise in integrity and continuity, not a theatre of cosmetic achievements. The APC Restoration Forum will continue to stand as a vanguard for truth, ensuring that the legacy of the past is protected and that the current administration is held to the highest standards of accountability.
Mr. Governor, do the honourable thing: inspect the school, praise the management for utilizing their IGR prudently, but do not claim ownership of what you did not build.

The Secretariat,
